I woke up from surgery later then expected on Wednesday. The staff in recovery got me up to the floor into a room with a beautiful view. I was on heavy meds all day and according to my sister and husband was quite the joke cracker.
The night at the hospital was uninterrupted. I am not sure if it was the meds or the blood pressure check or the med delivery but every 2 hours at a max someone was in the room doing something. I know they all had a mission but could we stretch the visit to 3 hours maybe.
One of the most shocking things to me is that the IV was being used for antibiotics and anti nausea meds. All pain meds were going in by mouth. The meds made me loopy and thirsty. I could not get enough water. The meds made me feel so full. I mean no appetite. My poor stomach was so full.
I made it through the night and morning rounds with all the crazy students staring at my new empty tits. I couldn't look. Even when the team came to take of my bandages and put on the real special bra they give you. The bra is supposed to hold the drains. They are terrible. From the moment I first saw them I thought they were awful.
Out of my surgery ravaged body, are the medical tubes with a bulb on each end. They collect drainage from the body and have to be emptied and measured, multiple times daily. I couldn't stand the smell.
The biggest shock came around 12 when they said, "Let's get you ready to go home"
