After my genetic tests came back, my doctor sent me back to the Breast Guy. The Breast Guy had dealt with this a million times so he didn't waste anytime presenting a plan.

He recommended a bilateral mastectomy. Wow! In a matter of days I went from no cancer to losing my boobs. He went through what the procedure would entail and offered some choices of plastic surgeons. He said he needed clearance from my cardiologist and pre-op blood work among other things.

I left there with multiple tasks.

Cardiologist

Blood work

Plastic Surgeon

What just happened. Last time I saw this guy he said no cancer. Today he said first the mastectomy then the ovaries.

When I asked the recovery time for the mastectomy he said 4-6 weeks. I was freaking out but trying to hold it together. I have a job, I have a family, how would this impact my life in the short term.

My freak out moment ended as soon as I reminded myself that short term impact would garuntee the idea of a long term as a part of my life. My husband wanted to know what the chances of getting cancer were when you have the mastectomy. The Breast Guy said in his 25 years of medicine, not once has a BRCA patient with preventative surgery ever developed cancer.

That was enough for me. I left there confident that I was making the right decision for myself and my family. In life I am a pretty positive person. It didn't take me long to find the silver lining. My husband said it was no cancer, I said it might be the insurance covered boob job!
